Rams to add Wrestling in fall 2019

Texas Wesleyan is adding men’s and women’s wrestling beginning in fall of 2019, according to Athletic Director, Ricky Dotson.

The athletic program will compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference and be headed up by head coach Ray Bedford, according to ramsports.net

“We hired Ray [Bedford] and will be recruiting through the spring and summer of 2019,” Dotson said.

Bedford is coming to Wesleyan in the fall but will be finishing out the school year at his current school, Plano Senior HS, according to ramsports.net.

Along with the addition of men’s and women’s wrestling, all of the athletic teams set up community outreach and continue to serve others in the spirit of giving.

“Recently the men’s basketball team participated in the Fort Worth Feast of Sharing,” Dotson said. “The team also reads to kids at the Boys and Girls club after school programs.”

The Rams baseball team is also involved with serving the community, participating the team IMPACT which serves underprivileged children in the Ft. Worth area, according to Dotson.

Dotson hopes that all of these off the field activities help make a more well-rounded individual on and off the field.

“I define success in terms of our individual student-athletes and their achievements as a student, a community leader, a husband/wife, and a mother/father,” Dotson says. “On-field accomplishments are great, but if we, as an athletic department, are able to mold young men and women into successful people in the working world and provide them with the direction they need to be great parents and spouses, then we’ve succeeded.”
